EPF Account 3 (Akaun Fleksibel): Everything You Need to Know
Understand the restructuring of EPF accounts, how the new flexible account works, and whether you should withdraw from it.
The New EPF Structure
KWSP has restructured member accounts into three tiers to balance retirement savings with short-term liquidity needs. The contributions are now split into:
- Akaun Persaraan (Account 1): 75% of contributions (Strictly for retirement).
- Akaun Sejahtera (Account 2): 15% of contributions (Housing, education, health).
- Akaun Fleksibel (Account 3): 10% of contributions (Can be withdrawn at any time).
Should You Withdraw from Account 3?
While the flexibility is helpful for emergencies, remember that funds left in Account 3 still earn the same high dividend rate as the other accounts. Withdrawing the money to place it in a standard savings account (yielding 1-2%) is a massive loss of compound interest. Only withdraw if absolutely necessary!
