How to Calculate Your EPF Dividend Payout in Malaysia
Understand how KWSP calculates your annual dividends based on your daily aggregate balance rather than your year-end balance.
The Daily Balance Method
Many Malaysians assume that if their EPF balance is RM 100,000 on December 31st and the dividend rate is 5.5%, they will receive RM 5,500. This is incorrect. KWSP calculates dividends using the Daily Aggregate Balance method.
How it Works
The dividend is calculated on your balance for every single day of the year. Contributions made in January earn 12 months of dividends, while contributions made in November only earn 1 month of dividends.
- Step 1: Sum up your exact balance for all 365 days of the year.
- Step 2: Divide the sum by 365 to get your average daily balance.
- Step 3: Multiply that average by the declared dividend rate.
