Understanding PCB (Potongan Cukai Berjadual) in Malaysia
A comprehensive guide on how your employer calculates your Monthly Tax Deduction and how to optimize your tax reliefs.
What is PCB?
PCB is the monthly deduction from your salary that goes towards paying your annual income tax. It ensures you don't have to pay a massive lump sum to LHDN in April. However, the default PCB calculation only accounts for basic reliefs (like your personal RM9,000 relief and EPF).
Filing the TP1 Form
If you have additional reliefs—like life insurance, a PRS (Private Retirement Scheme) contribution, or lifestyle purchases (laptops, books)—you should submit a TP1 Form to your HR department. This tells them to reduce your monthly PCB, giving you more take-home pay immediately instead of waiting for a tax refund next year.
